Triple Excellent – What Does It Mean?
While educating yourself about engagement rings, you may come across the term “Triple Excellent” and wondered what it stands for or if it’s even important to your search.
At its essence, Triple Excellent is a byword for high quality. As part of our commitment to offering the finest diamonds possible, Kwiat Tiara diamonds always carry the Triple Excellent distinction. To help you understand what makes a Triple Excellent diamond so special, we’d like to explain a bit more about what this term actually means.
What Is A Triple Excellent Diamond?
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the globally recognized authority on gemology, issues grades for three separate metrics: polish, symmetry, and cut. These grades, which range from Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, to Poor, help to establish a diamond’s overall quality.
Triple Excellent is the industry term for a diamond that receives the GIA’s top rating on each of those three metrics. In other words, a Triple Excellent diamond has Excellent grades for polish, symmetry, and cut.
Polish, Symmetry and Cut
Polish is judged according to the surface condition of a finished diamond’s faceting. Polish of an Excellent grade requires that all of the facets are smooth and unblemished. A diamond with Excellent polish is free from any nicks, scratches, or other issues that might occur while the diamond is at the polishing wheel.
Symmetry is judged by the arrangement and conformity of facets on a finished diamond. A stone with Excellent-grade symmetry will have sides and facets of equal size, along a host of other factors that reveal the level of care taken during the cutting process.
BECOME A KWIAT INSIDER
Cut gauges the proportions and angles of a finished diamond. Cut is also one of the 4Cs, the other three being color, clarity, and carat weight. Cut has a much larger impact on a diamond’s overall quality than either polish or symmetry, since it directly influences the diamond’s ability to reflect and refract light.
Diamonds with the GIA’s Excellent grade for cut will produce the best visual effects. These include brilliance (white light reflected internally and externally), fire (the rainbow of colors that occur when white light splits through a prism), and scintillation (the sparkle, together with its patterns of light and dark).
Which Diamonds Can Be Called Triple Excellent?
It’s important to note that the Triple Excellent label can only be applied to round brilliant diamonds. No other shapes are eligible for this status, because round diamonds alone receive a cut grade from the GIA. Fancy shape diamonds, which include everything besides round brilliant, will only receive grades for symmetry and polish.
Kwiat Tiara Diamonds Are Always Triple Excellent
All Kwiat Tiara diamonds are Triple Excellent, receiving the GIA’s highest grades for symmetry, polish, and cut. This means they are always of the very best caliber, with incomparable brilliance, fire, and scintillation.
